Day 9 for Kathy as Health and Safety Manager for Vircom EMS was in the field, experiencing a day in the life of a field technician who carries out reconnections for Vircom EMS customers.
The day started for Will Tuilotolava at a new apartment block in Auckland city arranging to meet the Property Manager to commence the reconnection, Will’s skill at finding a park was amasing followed by collecting the necessary tools and safety equipment from his vehicle in order to carry out the work safely. Completing the reconnection in a timely manner along with testing and ensuring everything is safe for the customer to use is important to Will. A final call to the Energy Provider to complete the job then off to the next call, a house undergoing renovation, now requiring power.
One job after another, Will carried out 5 similar jobs but in very different property situations, assessing the state of the workplace, the needs of the customer and at all times ensuring the work was not only carried out safety, but left safe for the customers and members of the public.
Will has worked in the Electricity Industry for many years starting way back with the Auckland Electric Power Board. Will says he has seen many changes over the years in the way field work is carried out but safety is always a priority in this high risk environment which I am very pleased to hear. My day was mostly as a passenger – even though I managed to help with map reading for 1 location, I have the greatest respect for the work Will and the other field technicians do, looking after our customers.
